Practicing in both intellectual property and transactional law for over 35 years, much of Fred’s career has been devoted to helping start-ups bring innovative technologies from concepts in a cradle to commercial realities. Earlier in his career Fred served as counsel to several Fortune 500 companies. Currently he enjoys applying his knowledge in technology and business law to help make small and medium size clients very successful.

With broad experience in engineering, several sciences and biomedical fields, Fred creates strategies to protect a wide range of new solutions with patents, trademarks and branding initiatives. As a registered patent attorney he develops portfolios of patents  to protect client markets with assertable, licensable IP rights.

​

Fred is a Florida Bar Board Certified Intellectual Property Attorney. He devotes portions of his personal time to Florida Bar committee work in order to best advise new clients on legal issues arising with emerging technologies. Perfecting security interests in NFT’s and other digital assets with blockchain technology is exemplary.

​

Fred is actively engaged in legislative and policy issues to provide his clients timely advice on how to limit risks and overcome impediments when protecting and transferring digital assets. He seeks to bring clarity to clients based on adoption of the forthcoming Article 12 Amendment to the Uniform Commercial Code in the State of Florida. He is a trained negotiator and a Florida Supreme Court Certified Mediator.

Fred negotiates complex business agreements involving the sale of technology  businesses and the sale and licensing of intellectual property rights. His practice includes formation of technology partnerships and development of licensing programs based on copyrights, trademarks and patents.

With a significant portion of Fred’s practice devoted to start-up companies, he frequently advises new clients on how to best protect products under domestic and international IP laws. He also counsels clients on patent, copyright and trademark infringement concerns, litigation, cost-effective dispute resolution and avoiding liability.

​

Fred implements comprehensive intellectual property protection strategies for technologies that enable more energy efficient products in power generation, including wind, aerospace transport and ground transportation. Patent portfolios are created with the goals of securing long term market opportunities and maximizing company valuations. He has developed trademark and patent strategies in a diverse group of industries, including consumer electronics, semiconductor devices, electric power generation, solar energy and medical systems.

Fred’s technical background includes physics, biophysics, chemistry, materials science, analog and digital electronics, electro-optics, machine vision, semiconductor device theory, data processing systems and Artificial Intelligence. His patent filings also cover nanotechnology, imaging systems, software and systems architectures, optical lens designs, improvements in digital projection systems to enhance immersive experiences, seismic sensing systems and RF communications.

In his transactional practice, Fred reviews, prepares, and negotiates a wide variety of commercial contracts including SAAS agreements, value-added reseller agreements, sales rep/distributor agreements and the full range of licenses. He also drafts agreements for technical consulting services, R&D, technology transfers and disclosure of proprietary information to potential partners, customers, and contractors, Assessments are made on whether to file provisional patent applications before making confidential disclosures.

In hIs corporate employment with three Fortune 500 Companies, Fred served as license counsel, patent counsel, and manager of defensive patent litigations. He also served as counsel for all commercial work under several General Managers, including a large product line providing OEM electronics into the automotive industry. He was responsible for several international business units, including world-wide manufacturing and worldwide procurement operations. He gained extensive experience in developing and administering intellectual property programs for new businesses, securing patent rights, negotiations and the settlement of infringement claims.

Before forming Accel IP Law, Fred was a partner for over twelve years in a firm largely focused on securing IP rights. He transitioned to the Accel law firm because many small and medium size clients benefit from partnering with one firm familiar with their entire business and capable of responding to all of their commercial legal needs. Accel has since retained additional transactional attorneys to meet this growing demand while also increasing the number of intellectual property attorneys. Fred is personally involved with coordination of each client’s work when performed among multiple attorneys to assure a full understanding of all relevant information. He assures that all work product is given quality review before it is received by the clients.

Prior to his legal career, Fred followed his interests  with graduate studies in biophysics and policy to improve  the quality of decisions in both the private and public sectors. . He also held senior positions with the U.S. Department of the Navy and the U.S. Department of Transportation. He worked in government as a materials engineer, a research scientist and manager of environmental research programs.
